DarC Horizons...

DarC Horizons is appearing! Progress is slow due to school, especially finals/final projects. Luckily, my Standards Based Web Design (CSS/XHTML) professor is allowing me to use this site as a project - therefore I get to build it on school time. This is also nice because I work carefully as I'm receiving a grade on it : )

Appalachian Trail Thru Hike
December 14, 2005 - 3:39 am

I’ve begun planning for a thru hike on the Appalachian Trail - 2,174 miles of bliss.
See the newly added AT section for more information and what to expect once I’ve hit the trail (planning for June, 2007).

Art & Photography
November 16, 2005 - 4:09 pm

I’ve decided to add a section on art and (digital) photography…

Haven’t decided how I’m going to organize it. If I can find the time over Thanksgiving break I’ll code my own gallery in PHP (most of the ones I’ve found are entirely too bloated [like 4Images], I want something simple, smooth, and lightweight). That is, unless I should happen upon one I like between now and then.

Cordelette Safety Tie-in Tutorial

Cordelette Safety
Cordelette Safety Tie-in Tutorial

I wrote this tutorial on how to use a Sterling Cordelette as a safety tie in. This is pretty bomber and some total overkill, as well as expensive for what could be accomplished with runner or properly tied piece of webbing.

My only reason for doing this was that I won a cordelette at the Horseshoe Canyon Rendevous and had no purpose for it. At the same time I realized that the webbing I was using for my safety tie-in was too long and a pain to climb with, so I designed this.

Advantage:
BOMBER!!
Put’s something I won to good use
Makes you look cool to people who don’t realize you could do it so much easier.

Disadvantage:
HEAVY (compared to a runner)
Complicated (compared to a runner)
Pointless (when you have a runner)

So there you have it…. there’s no real good reason to do this (if you have runners), unless you’re afraid of your runner breaking, then you probably just have paranoia problems. However, if you happen to find/win a cordelette and don’t know what to do with it… here you go:

News Blog
October 28, 2005 - 10:54 pm

Alright, I’ve integrated this blog into the mainpage so I can post news, updates, etc here without having to edit the mainpage.

Hopefully this will knock off some work for me and ensure timely updates.
